Chances are you are attempting to select text in a scanned image of a printed document. MyScribe allows annotations on text, not images of text.

For example, let's say your professor wants you to read a chapter from a book that went out of print 80 years ago. Your professor has a copy of the book so she scans the desired pages and uses the images to create a PDF. You import this PDF into MyScribe. At the present time, MyScribe cannot recognize that a picture of an "A" should be interpreted as a textual "A".
